Sun Talk Stops Broadcasting but Why?

SunTalk began broadcasting in April 2009, and aired every week day for three hours per day and recently expanded to 2 shows a day.

Presented by John Gaunt, it was available online via the Sun website, and broadcast on FM to the British expatriate and holidaymaking community in parts of Spain, including Costa Blanca and the Canary islands.

In May, Gaunt said that the station, which gave "expats and holidaymakers a slice of Blighty," had "exceeded expectations" for its first year.

Visitors to the website last week however were met with the message: "SunTalk is no longer live ... Thank you for listening over the last 18 months. Please continue to enjoy our podcasts."

A News International spokesman said that the decision to close SunTalk had been made “as part of an ongoing review of the business, and a desire to concentrate on our core product.”

Last week, Gaunt lost a legal battle with the media regulator Ofcom over an on-air incident in November 2008, when he called a local councillor a Nazi on the radio station TalkSport and there you probably have the real reason as the whole show was based around John Gaunt and they didn’t want to take the other flack coming there way. This station closing down is a surprise considering they had just expanded to an all day radio show hence why you have to think the legal case against Gaunt and possible further cases bought about the closing down of Sun Talk.
